Kami Laliberté and the other drivers of Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) used this Italian F4 meeting as a preparation for their campaign in the German series, which starts at the end of the month. Laliberté and his teammates first spent several hours in the team's driving simulator to get to grips with the 4.226, 16-corner road course.
The young Canadian enjoyed two practice sessions before qualifying 13th for Sunday’s race. In Saturday’s sole race, he started from 17th place to finish 10th after some good moves. “We worked hard to find speed on this track that was unknown to all of us,” Laliberté declared. “I drove a good race, I think. I passed four cars moments after the start. I then lost one spot, but I enjoyed some good battles after that to cross the line in 10th place and score a point.”
In the two other races held on Sunday, Laliberté scored a fifth and a ninth place after he started from 12th and 14th place, respectively. “In the first race of the day, I made another good start and gained several places during the course of the race,” Laliberté explained. “In the closing moments of the race, I passed another car to finish fifth.
“On the last round of the meeting, I had to start from way back in 14th position. Several contacts and accidents happened in front of me but I managed to stay away from the chaos to finish 9th. I am happy with my performance because this track was totally new to me. It was a good experience for me before I make the start in the German series,” he concluded.
The opening round of the German Formula 4 Championship will be held April 28th, 29th and 30th at the Motorsport Arena in Oschersleben, a 3.696km, 14-turn, short and twisty road course located in the eastern region of Germany.
