After a first shakedown race in the Italian series a few weeks ago, Laliberté took part in the first race of the 2017 German F4 Championship, driving the No. 25 car entered by Van Amersfoort Racing.

Laliberté took the start of the first race in sixth place and finished 10th. “I lost two places during the first lap,” the teenager explained. “Then I got hit and fell down to 12th place. I made up one spot and the guy in front of me got penalized so I was finally classified 10th.”

In race 2, Laliberté started from fifth place on the grid. “I got problems again during the opening lap and lost two places,” he recalled. “But I drove aggressively and managed to cross the line in seventh place.”

This seventh place finish gave the Canadian the pole for the third and final race of the meeting. He took the start alongside Marcus Armstrong. The two young wolves enjoyed a good start, but made the exact same mistake when braking for the first corner. The two youngsters locked up their front wheels and understeered into the gravel trap, forcing them into costly retirements.

“It’s a catastrophe,” said Laliberté. “We both braked a little bit too late and went straight into the run-off area and got stuck into the gravel trap. I must learn from my mistakes and get a better finish next race weekend.”

The series moved to the Lausitzring for the next round, May 19, 20 and 21.
