It wasn`t a good weekend for the two Argentinians drivers in the Italian Formula Renault. The eight round, disputed in the F1 circuit of Imola, San Marino, left as result a fifth place for José María López and a fourteen for Martín Ponte.
Pechito¨ qualified sixth complicate with a problem in the brake balance. With the strategy of finish the best place possible to stay leading the championship and with an eye in his to maximums rivals: Robert Kubica and Davide Di Benedetto, López has very clear what he want. However, he went out of the track when he was in the fight with the second, which make him lost some positions.
¨In the start I passed from sixth to fourth place and in the second lap I was third. but unfortunately I made a mistake in one of the curves. After this I was seventh and I have to remount from the back until finish fifth, very closed the fourth. If it wasn`t for the mistake I could finish in the podium. In the Italian Championship I still first and we will keep working hard for the last to races (Misano and Muguello)¨ said the yound driver of 19 years old who now leads with ten points over the second in the championship, Robert Kubica.
The other argentinian in the Italian Formula Renault, Martín Ponte finished 14º in a good race after start 23º. Ponte almost doesn`t participate because he wasn`t happy with the engine, but after all he advanced nine positions.
¨We worked very hard in the set up of the car and we improve a little. The big problem was the lack of speed, we lost 11Km/h in the straight¨ recognised the BVM Racing Minardi Jr. driver.
