AFR: Series Chengdu summary

Genius Driver, Martin Cao wins in row.

Second race of 2010 AFR Series finished at Chengdu in this afternoon. The FRD Racing Team young driver Martin Cao continued his superb form, winning the race again with a 10sec margin. Sandy Stuvik from Asia Racing Team and Rainey He from FRD Racing Team captured second and third respectively same as round 1.

The weather forecast was calling for a high chance of shower but it did not materialize. Therefore, all drivers started the race with slick tires. However, the weather changed to drizzle just before the starting of the race. Although it did not change the track into full wet, but the track did become quite slippery. The drivers noticed that in the formation lap and started the race carefully. The red lights went off and Martin Cao held his first place and he was not in a hurry to create a gap due to the track condition. The cars moved in close formation for the first few laps. As a result of the close battle, Zhi Cong Li, who started the race in the sixth place, grasped this opportunity putting a lot of pressure on Rainey He. Zhang Ran ran off the track since the track is slippery and retired from the race very early.

After two laps, Martin Cao started to pick up speed up and managed to create a larger gap. Sandy Stuvik and Rainey He separated in a distance and could not affect each other but also failed to shorten the difference between them and the leader. They changed their race to a cruising mode trying to bring the car home safely . Zhicong Li tried to defence his position from Samin Briceno's attack. However, he made a slight mistake towards the end of the race allowing Samin Briceno and Tim Sritrai passing him simultaneously. At the leading pack, Martin Cao was the first one to cross the checkered flag with a big lead, follow him was Sandy Stuvik and Rainey He. These three men stood on top of the podium in both Asian Category and International Category again.

The next race of AFR will be held in 14th-15th August, at the Shanghai International Circuit (SIC) joining the famous C1 event. Again, FRD is cooperating with One foundation and Jet Li to present the annual celebrity race in this C1 and a full grandstand is expected for the Sunday race.
