Unprecedented competition will take place at ZIC
The Asian Formula Renault championship (AFR), the very popular single- seater race being jointly promoted by FRD and ZIC, will trigger its penultimate match of the season at Zhuhai International Circuit (ZIC) on 24th and 25th, October.
The championship welcomes a new team-Gold Wolf GP team. Mr. Sawano, the team manager of the new team, indicated that the team and drivers are very excited about the upcoming AFR race: "We will bring two drivers Fujishita Katsuhiro and WATARU from Japan to the AFR race weekend and we are looking forward to seeing their performance." Champ Motorsports racing team will compete in the championship with a new line-up. Champ Motorsports' team manager Pekka Saarinen brings to the championship yet another very young driver, from his home country of Finland: 16 year old Leopold Ringbom. Paul Lau and Victor Yung will also make their first AFR appearance of the season with Champ Motorsports.
During the 2009 season the AFR championship furthered its purpose of providing a good platform for young talented drivers from all over the world. The drivers impressed the public with their outstanding performance as they took turns leading the International category points table: Alon Day, the Israeli driver, claimed top position at the beginning of the season. However, by its mid-stage, the French driver Rouget out-performed himself and took the season points lead from Day in the Beijing race weekend. Luis SA SILVA, the young driver from Angola, later caught up with four winner trophies and is now leading the championship with Alon Day following very closely behind (3 points' difference) and Rouget in 3rd. Having such a close fight on the points table leaves the championship title winner a mystery. The Asian category, on the other hand, has drawn much attention for the young talented driver Zhang Zhiqiang, former A1 driver Tengyi Jiang and the very experienced touring car driver Rainey He. Zhang Zhiqiang is now leading the Asian Category with Jiang Tengyi and Li Zhicong following closely behind.
Let's count on another brilliant performance from the AFR drivers.
