A Long goodbye: American jumps from Manor to Fortec.
HARROLD, Bedfordshire, UK. - Patrick Long, the young American who finished second in last year's British Formula Ford title chase, will complete the 2002 British Formula Renault championship driving for Fortec Motorsport. Long contested the first four rounds of the Renault season with Manor Motorsports.
Fortec Motorsport, based in Daventry, England, had been exceptionally strong in this year's Formula Renault championship. Danny Watts has won three of the first four races and is second in overall points. Watts and Fortec teammates Jamie Green and Katherine Legge have all won pole positions.
"I want to thank everyone at Manor Motorsports for giving me the opportunity to race in British Formula Renault," Long said. "I just feel at this time that Fortec will give me a better opportunity to succeed. Danny Watts and Jamie Green have been quick all year with Fortec. Hopefully, I can join them on the podium."
Long started the season strongly, qualifying 7th and finishing 5th in the season opener at Brands Hatch. He is currently 13th in points.
Long made history last season as an American in British Formula Ford, winning three races and narrowly losing the championship. His runner-up position was the highest ever by an American in British Formula Ford.
