Right to the wire!

By clinching his third win of the season in Barcelona, Filipe Albuquerque (Motopark Academy) takes the suspense right to the wire and puts himself right back in the race for the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 title. The lead in the Championship standings falls to Carlo van Dam (SG Formula) going into the last race of the season. Chris van der Drift (JD Motorsport) and Bertrand Baguette (Epsilon Euskadi) will also be in the fight for the title.

Filipe Albuquerque got off to an impeccable start to go into the opening bend first ahead of Tom Dillmann (SG Formula). Further back, it was another story for Carlo van Dam who made a mess of his start, letting Kasper Andersen, Chris van der Drift and Dani Clos (Jenzer Motorsport) clean through. The race didn't look like it was going to be easy for Van der Drift, who had lost part of his front wing in a coming-together with another driver.

On lap three, Van Dam reclaimed fifth place by getting past Clos. The Catalonian driver was then passed by Bertrand Baguette. On a roll, the Belgian went straight back on the attack, successfully passing both Van Dam and Van der Drift.

With five laps gone, Albuquerque already had a 1''2 lead over Dillmann and Andersen. A gap had also opened up back to Baguette, who had in turn had no trouble in putting some open track between himself and Van der Drift. The New Zealander was doing his very best to hold his position at the head of a group consisting of Van Dam, Campos, Maasen, Clos, Mustonen and Oakes.

Dani Clos then saw his title hopes go up in smoke when he suffered a rear puncture on lap six. At the same time, Van Dam finally managed to get the upper hand over Van der Drift. From there, things only got worse for the Eurocup leader, who dropped out of the points after making an error on the following lap.

After ten laps, Tom Dillmann was drawing noticeably closer to Filipe Albuquerque. Kasper Andersen was managing to stay in contact with the leaders while Bertrand Baguette pulled back to within several lengths of the Dane. From there, there was no change in the race order, until the chequered flag taken by Albuquerque, followed by Dillmann and Andersen!

By setting the fastest race lap, Carlo van Dam earned an additional point which means he goes into the final race with a four point lead over Van der Drift. Five and nine points behind leader respectively, Albuquerque and Baguette are still well in with a chance of the title! Another result worth mentioning is the sixth place for Oliver Campos (Team Jenzer), his best result in the Eurocup so far.

Filipe Albuquerque: "I love this circuit and the team has provided me with a car which has been excellent since the start of the weekend. I got off to a good start and I was out there on my own. There were plenty of yellow flags though and I was unable to set the fastest race lap. I hope I can repeat this success tomorrow."

Tom Dillmann: "I'm happy to be back on the Eurocup podium. I had two good opportunities in Le Mans but electronic problems stopped me from taking them. Filipe opened up a gap right from the start. I was a little quicker towards the end of the race, but it wasn't enough to be able to attack him."

Kasper Andersen: "I was very quick in collective testing but I didn't have any luck in qualifying. I attacked as much as I could during the race, but the back end of the car was moving around. All in all, this podium is a good result for me."
