The change is coming...

Nineteen drivers took to the track at Barcelona today for two sessions of collective testing in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. During this tryout session, in which Brice Bosi was the only driver to have competed in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 this season, Cram Competition's Come Legodard set the fastest time of the day.

The rain welcomed the drivers invited by Renault Sport Technologies to get a taste of Formula Renault 2.0. The drivers from F4 Eurocup 1.6, the 2009 and 2010 Toyota Racing Series New Zealand champions, Richie Stenway and Mitch Evans, Swedish Formula Renault 2.0 champion, Daniel Roos, Formula Renault 2.0 BARC champion Mitchell Halle, as well as kart drivers from the CRG Racing Team all had their chance to drive a few laps in the dry before a passing shower came down.

More familiar with the car, Boetti Racing Team's Brice Bosi wasted no time in setting the fastest lap. Behind him, Pierre Sancinena, one of the movers-and-shakers from F4 Eurocup 1.6, and Richie Stenway, winner of the 2009 Toyota Racing Series New Zealand and the ADAC Formula Master in 2010, also put on an impressive show. Norman Nato and Paul-Loup Chatin also kept up a brutal pace. The first session was soon interrupted as the rain came down and it was Formula Renault 2.0 Sweden champion, Daniel Roos, who managed to drive the most laps.

The conditions improved in the afternoon And Come Ledogard, Richie Stenway and Norman Nato got down to brass tacks, setting faster laps than during the morning session.. Daniel Roos also appeared at ease. Brice Bosi took advantage of his previous experience and took leadership of the session with a 1'46"375 lap. In the closing minutes, Come Ledogard, who had previously driven in Formul'Academy in 2008 and Formula BMW in 2009, set the fastest time of the day with a 1'46"231 lap. But the aim for the 18 drivers getting their first taste of Formula Renault 2.0 was to really get a feel for the car in advance of the new season.

Quote, unquote:

Daniel Roos: "I wasn't expecting this version of Formula Renault 2.0 to be so totally different to the old car I was driving last season. I was very pleasantly surprised. I love driving the car. This was my first taste of the car and the circuit today, so I'm really pleased with my performance."

Stoffel Vandoorne: "It went well today. In terms of performance, I was on the pace even if it wasn't the aim of today's session to go for outright speed. This is a real driver's car. I got the hang of it really quickly, even in the wet this morning. No stress, no risk; my aim now really is to drive in Eurocup FR 2.0 next year. I'm hoping that we can make a decision on my 2011 season very soon."

Norman Nato: "I was driving the old car last season and I've also taken part in testing with this car. What I liked most was the gearchange on the steering wheel. I was on the pace. We didn't really put the new tyres on at the right moment, but that's ok. It was also a good experience to work with a team from another country. Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 really makes sense as my next step."

Mitchell Hale: "The morning session was hard work in the rain. In the dry everything went much better. I drove a lot of laps. I made mistakes on the fresh tyres, so I need to be realistic about my times. There's a lot more grip and better roadholding than with the old Formula Renault 2.0. And I really like the gearchange on the steering wheel, it's like having a Playstation in your car!"
