British drivers make themselves at home

In collective testing at Silverstone, the Formula Renault 2.0 UK drivers put in strong performances on home soil, with Lewis Williamson (Manor Competition) producing the best time in each session. The Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 drivers applied themselves to preparing for a decisive weekend. Javier Tarancon (Epsilon Euskadi) was quickest, ahead of Arthur Pic (Tech 1 Racing) and Daniel de Jong (MP Motorsport).

For the first day at Silverstone, the drivers in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 were joined by Formula Renault 2.0 UK for collective testing. A total thirty nine Formula Renault 2.0 took to the track.

Today was the debut in the discipline for Spanish driver Carlos Sainz Junior (Epsilon Euskadi), son of the double World Rally Champion. Junior was right on the pace, but caused the red flag to be shown early in the session, following an excursion into the gravel trap. The session got back underway, and Riki Cristodoulou (Fortec Motorsport) went to the top of the timing screens, just above Aaro Vainio (Tech 1 Racing), but again the red flag came out when Alex Riberas (Epsilon Euskadi) and Sandro Lukovic (Interwetten) span out.

The rankings for the session were decided in just a few laps. The drivers in Formula Renault 2.0 UK used all their local knowledge, donned new rubber and took over the top positions. Lewis Williamson held the top spot, lapping in 2'01''975, ahead of Tamas Pal Kiss (Atech GP), Riki Cristodoulou and Ollie Millroy (Manor Competition). Kevin Korjus (Koiranen Bros Motorsport) lay in fifth place, just in front of Arthur Pic (Tech 1 Racing), in sixth.

The second session gave drivers a clearer run and an opportunity to practice some longer lap sequences. For the first forty minutes of collective testing, Lewis Williamson, Nick Yelloly (Atech GP) and Tamas Pal Kiss fought it out for first place. With their new tyres, the British drivers dominated the action at the top of the timing screens. With a lap time of 2'00''048, Lewis Williamson finally claimed the best time of day, ahead of Tom Blomqvist (Fortec Motorsport) and Tamas Pal Kiss. The drivers in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 preferred to preserve their quota of tyres, different from that of the Formula Renault 2.0 UK. Javier Tarancon confirmed his good form and claimed the fastest time among the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0.

Javier Tarancon : "I feel as good as at Hockenheim. The car feels great and it corresponds perfectly to my driving. I'm pretty optimistic and the goal this weekend for me is to try to finish on the podium at least once. For next year, nothing is decided. The Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 is one of the options we're considering."

Carlos Sainz Jr : "This is my debut with this car and I'm finding it really top-drawer to drive. I am here to learn, so I'm not setting myself any targets. This morning I had an electronic problem and the accelerator wasn't responding properly - that's why I took a ride. I'm in the right rhythm, so I'm satisfied."

Arthur Pic : "It's a crunch weekend. We worked today without really concentrating on the clock. We didn't fit new tyres because we had some things to try. We have different adjustments to make before tomorrow's qualifying. It's a circuit where it is easy to fall into a false rhythm, so you need to be 200% from beginning to end."
