Verschuur in an ideal position

By claiming both pole positions, McGregor by Equipe Verschuur's Mike Verschuur moved still closer to the title, especially as Equipe Verschuur's Bas Schothorst lines up alongside him. Boutsen Energy Racing's Dimitri Enjalbert and TDS Racing's Jonathan Hirschi are nevertheless lying in wait for him. There are no two ways about it, they must take risks in the race.

There were no preliminaries in this session, as Mike Verschuur and Jonathan Hirschi came out fighting for pole. They nevertheless had to contend with heavy traffic during the first few laps. Everyone was out to set the first fastest lap of the day.

The two drivers were quickly joined by Dimitri Enjalbert. Versschuur looked to have the upper hand over his rivals. Lapping in 2'04"335, he claimed provisional pole ahead of Enjalbert and Hirschi.

Behind the lead trio, TDS Racing's Jean-Philippe Madonia got the better of Team Lompech Sport's Fabrice Walfisch, Schothorst and Tech 1 Racing's Nick Catsburg. All the drivers stayed out on the track for a long time, as temperatures continued to rise at the Motorland Aragon circuit.

Schothorst put on a show, managing to join the fight for pole, which no other driver seemed able to match. The newcomer to the class joined the front row alongside Mike Verschuur, with Enjalbert third and Hirschi fourth.

Positions for the second grid are determined by each driver's second fastest lap, and for the last race of the season Mike Verschuur once again finds himself in pole position. He is followed by his championship rivals, with Enjalbert in second and Hirschi third.

Quote, unquote:

Mike Verschuur: "It couldn't have gone better! I scored another point, and best of all, I'm in an ideal position for my race without having to worry about the others. Moreover, it's perfect that another Equipe Verschuur car is with me on the front row to protect me. There was a lot of traffic at the start of the session. I knew that time was slipping away. I succeeded in giving myself a clear lap and it worked."

Bas Schothorst: "I wasn't able to get the best out of my fresh tyres from the start. It's a shame, as I set my best time at the end of the session. Honestly, I think I think the pole was well within reach. I must be careful not to upset the fight for the title, but my goal is to finish on the podium."

Jonathan Hirschi: "I got off to a good start at the beginning of the session, and I was on the pace straight away, but I wasn't able to improve when the others upped the ante. You can overtake on this circuit, so I'm still hopeful to take advantage of that during the race. I need to take points from Mike so that the title is still up for grabs in the final race."
