EU Megane: Plans announced for 2007

The Eurocup Megane Trophy will take a step closer to the world of Endurance racing in 2007 with longer races and the possibility of entering two-driver teams.

Redesigned racing format

A single car may be used by one or two drivers, who will score the same number of points. To be included in the Junior standings, both drivers in a two-driver team must be Juniors (under 25 years old on January 1, 2007).

Each meeting will feature a 40-minute qualifying session and two races of 40 minutes plus one lap.

For qualifying, the best two times set by each team will be used to determine the start grid for each race.

The races will include a mandatory pit stop for refuelling, during which teams with two drivers must swap drivers.

A new look Megane Trophy

The 2007 version of Megane Trophy will feature a new front bumper, new headlamps and brake lights, and a refuelling system for use during races.

Almost 600,000 Euros in prize money

546,000 euros of prize money will be available over the fourteen races. The top fifteen in the overall standings (5,000 Euros to the winner) and the top five Juniors (2,000 Euros to the winner) will receive prize money. At the end of the season, the overall champion will win a Megane Renault Sport and the Junior champion will win a Clio Renault Sport.

Seven meetings on the 2007 race calendar

The 2007 World Series by Renault will feature seven meetings in 2007: Germany, Belgium, France, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Portugal and Spain.
