First pole goes to Verschuur

Mike Verschuur (McGregor by Equipe Verschuur) underlined the form he's in today by taking the very first pole position in the history of New Megane Trophy. The Dutchman got the better of Dimitri Enjalbert (Boutsen Energy Racing), whose consolation is nevertheless first place on the second grid of the season.

All twenty two drivers dreamt of taking the first pole position aboard New Megane Trophy. Dimitri Enjalbert wasted no time in turning heads and claiming the provisional pole position, putting in a lap time of 1'53''274. The Frenchman proceeded to be ousted by Bernhard Ten Brinke (Equipe Verschuur).

With everyone on fresh tires, drivers went flat out to make the difference in the early stages of the session. Dimitri Enjalbert fought back to top spot, with a lap time of 1'52''343. Only to be overtaken by Mike Verschuur (McGregor by Equipe Verschuur), who went one better in 1'52''239.

As the minutes went by, Mike Verschuur's pole position seemed safe. For the drivers, a second fast lap was also a top priority. It's the second fastest lap that counts for the race 2 grid position. Here, it was Dimitri Enjalbert who came out on top and pocketed pole position for the second race.

At the close of the session, the positions would remain unchanged. So Mike Verschuur becomes the first poleman aboard a New Megane Trophy. He will take up position on the first row of the grid, accompanied by Dimitri Enjalbert. Bernhard Ten Brinke and Nick Catsburg (Tech 1 Racing) will occupy row 2, while Jean-Philippe Madonia put in the best performance of the Gentlemen Drivers.

For the second race of the weekend, Dimitri Enjalbert will be on pole ahead of Bernhard Ten Brinke, Mike Verschuur and Pierre Thiriet (TDS).

Mike Verschuur: "Collective testing went well yesterday. We had a niggly brake problem that we were able to sort out. Today I felt really good in the car. I waited for four minutes before going out. I was focused on my driving, it as a good way to start the year. I got a little bit held up in traffic, so that's why I'll be in third place on the starting grid for race 2. Both races will be hotly contested."

Dimitri Enjalbert, "We knew the tires would be effective in the fist laps; unfortunately I had a little gearbox trouble on my second lap as I found myself in neutral. I lost a little time and I think that cost me the pole position. After that, the tires had lost their edge. A lot can happen out there, so second and first is perfect going into the races."
