Double victory for Tech 1 Racing!

The Eurocup Megane Trophy Tech 1 Racing drivers had a perfect weekend on the famous Nurburgring circuit. Matthieu Lahaye and Bruce Lorgere-Roux each won a race -- a dominant performance that brings healthy rewards in all three Megane Championships.

After a brilliant debut in Istanbul, Bruce Lorgere-Roux returned to the Toulouse-based Tech 1 Racing team at the Nurburgring. " Bruce will finish the season with us, " explained team boss Simon Abadie. " Our objective is to take a clean sweep of the teams championship and the junior championship, but also to allow Matthieu to fight for the drivers' championship. " These are ambitious goals but judging by the results over the weekend, they are entirely within the grasp of the Tech 1 Racing team.

On Friday, the battle between Matthieu and Jaap Van Lagen started in free practice. Despite not knowing the circuit well and not having much running time, Bruce's potential was also clear to see.

This time, qualifying went well for both drivers. The session took place without a hitch : Matthieu was in a class of his own to take his first two pole positions of the season. Bruce qualified just behind his team for the first race, and his second quick lap resulted in fourth place overall.

On Saturday afternoon, the first row of the grid was dominated by the black and white colours of Tech 1 Racing's Meganes. When the red lights went out, Matthieu and Bruce took the lead ahead of Jaap Van Lagen. With a third of the race still to run, Van Lagen was putting Bruce under increasing pressure -- who made a small mistake that allowed the Dutchman to pass him. Their battle gave Matthieu a bit of space, and he raced on to his very first Eurocup Megane Trophy victory !

Bruce was determined to have his revenge on Sunday. At the start Matthieu did not get away cleanly and found himself fourth behind Cesar Campanico, Jaap Van Lagen and Bruce. The four drivers fought bumper-to-bumper throughout the whole race. This time it was Van Lagen who made a mistake half way through -- which the Tech 1 drivers took full advantage of !

Under pressure, Campanico took a short cut over a chicane on the last lap in order to hold onto his advantage. The Portuguese driver ended up with a penalty that handed victory to Bruce. Matthieu's second place meant that it was the first one-two for Tech 1 Racing since Monza 2005--

Simon Abadie was understandably overjoyed. " It's been a dream weekend for us, " he said. " We move into the lead of the teams championship and Bruce moves into second place in the junior championship behind Matthieu -- who has a big lead now. Matthieu is also third now in the overall championship. We head into the summer break feeling very confident. But we're not just going to be sitting around during August -- we need to capitalise on the progress we have made so far ! "

By contrast, Pierre Hirschi endured his most difficult weekend of the season. The Swiss gentleman driver was 17th in the first race before being forced into retirement during the second. He will be aiming to set the record straight at Donington.
