Extremely busy weekend for Racing For Belgium!

BORNEM. Racing For Belgium will have their hands full this coming weekend. Wim Coekelbergs and his team will be battling it out on no less than three different fronts on Saturday and Sunday: WTCC in Zandvoort, WSR Megane Trophy at the Nurburgring and last but not least the FIA-GT3 at Silverstone. Wim Coekelbergs is looking ahead to the team's activities: "I myself will not be competing; in fact I'll be commuting, with special emphasis on the WTCC-event at Zandvoort. We are facing a very busy and especially important weekend, with ambitions of various kinds. "

RFB is making its major debut at Zandvoort in the World Touring Car Championship with the Alfa 156 for the Portuguese driver Miguel Freitas. This 23 year old will be competing with the car Alessandro Balzan drove last season, in the Yokohama Independents' Trophy. Miguel Freitas: "I'm fully aware that it will be a difficult assignment because it is the maiden trip for the car, and as yet I have no experience of Zandvoort. The main ambition is to gain experience and hopefully even clinch a point."

In the World Series by Renault Megane Trophy RFB is looking for revenge after a highly difficult opening weekend. "The first races at Zolder were indeed disappointing", Wim Coekelbergs admits. "With the nineteen year old French talent Michael Rossi and the single-seater hope Carlo van Dam we should be battling it out up front but technical problems put a spoke in the wheel two weeks ago at Zolder. But at least we know what went wrong; and this mustn't happen to us a second time around. Germany should definitely be better."

And finally the Aston Martin DBRS9 of Racing for Belgium will once again be racing in England. Two weeks after the Belcar competition held on the somewhat further north circuit of Donington, this beautiful GT in the colours of RFB will be making its debut in the FIA GT3-championship. "After the race at Donington the organisers approached us and we finally agreed. We will in fact be racing together with the French Hexis, who are also competing in the FFSA-GT3 and will be entering two cars at Silverstone. This adds up to three cars in total, the minimum requirement per team. The drivers on duty will be Ron Marchal, my partner in the Belcar and Tom Cloet who replaces our Portuguese driver Cesar Campanico, injured in a karting accident. Their ambition should be to become the best Aston. At present there's not much more to say about GT3 seeing we do not presently know the comparisons between the various cars. It is our intention to compete in the entire championship" Wim Coekelbergs explained.
