METCALFE CONFIDENT OF SNETTERTON SUCCESS THIS WEEKEND

Formula Renault UK race-winner Jeremy Metcalfe is feeling confident ahead of this weekend's 13th and 14th rounds of the season at Snetterton, even though today's two pre-event test sessions at the Norfolk circuit didn't quite go according to plan.

Having opted to run solely on old tyres throughout the morning while others used fresh rubber, hence the seventh fastest time of 1m 05.865 seconds (106.68mph), Jeremy's planned run on fresh tyres during the afternoon was negated when a problem arose on his AKA Cobra car and he therefore ended up 13th overall on combined times.

The 19-year-old Loughborough University student, currently seventh overall in the driver standings, ran firmly on the pace in both sessions when everyone utilised older rubber and bearing in mind he was third fastest during last week's exclusive Formula Renault UK test at Snetterton, Jeremy has high hopes of a podium return on Sunday.

Reflecting on his day's running, Jeremy explained: "We didn't get a run on new tyres all day unfortunately which is the reason things are the way they are on the timesheets. Our placing of 13th fastest on combined times isn't indicative of our true pace.

"On old tyres this morning we were only about a 10th of a second off the fastest time but while others then started to use new tyres, we chose not to which meant we ended up seventh quickest."

He added: "In the second session we were in the top three, again on old rubber, and then fell down the times as others started to take fresh tyres. Unfortunately, as soon as we had our new tyres on something broke on the car so we couldn't use them. It's a shame but the car feels good and I'm pretty confident for tomorrow."

Jeremy, who is residing once more in his home town of Fleet in Hampshire while in summer recess from university, will return to the track tomorrow morning, Saturday, 28th July, at 10.40 for round 13 qualifying. The second qualifying session is then expected to get underway at 14.50.

Both races will be held on Sunday, 29th July, with round 13 timetabled to begin at 11.05 and round 14 scheduled to start at 16.10. Digital satellite and cable subscription channel Setanta Sports 1 will broadcast both 18-lap encounters exclusively live.
