RENAULT RACER WILLIAMSON STEELS THE SHOW DURING DEBUT GP3 TEST

Formula Renault UK Vice Champion Lewis Williamson (Golspie) continued his impressive 2010 season by topping the timesheets on the final day of GP3 testing at Estoril recently -- despite having never driven the car before.

The Scot, who only narrowly missed out on the 2010 Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship title, was among thirty young drivers testing at the Portuguese circuit along with eight other past and present Renault racers.

Testing with Atech CRS GP, the 20-year-old posted a best time of 1min 31.230s during the afternoon session of the third and final day of testing to claim the top honours. He was equally impressive in the morning session running second quickest and just 0.125 seconds behind the more experienced and GP3 race winner Adrien Tambay.

Williamson also recorded the quickest time on the previous day, despite it being his first ever time in the car and edging out Dutchman Nigel Melker with local race Antonio Felix da Costa third.

The test also saw impressive performances for 2009 Formula Renault UK Champion Dean Smith (Wolverhampton) and 2009 Vice Champion James Calado (Worcester).

Commenting on his plans for next year Williamson said: "I'm still weighing up all my options but GP3 is certainly one of my preferred routes for next year. I still have a Formula 3 test to take shortly which was part of the prize for doing well in the Formula Renault UK championship so I will have to see how that goes but GP3 is a natural step for Renault drivers who want to move up the motorsport ladder."
