"No massive fuss" to join an F1 team, says top prospect Norris

Norris, 16, started his single-seater career by winning the F4-spec MSA Formula series last year and followed it up with the Toyota Racing Series title this winter.

He stepped up to FR2.0 for the regular 2016 season, racing in both Eurocup and NEC series, as well as doing a part-time campaign in BRDC British F3.

While he races alongside Force India juniors Jehan Daruvala and Nikita Mazepin and former Lotus protege Dorian Boccolacci, the Briton doesn't feel he needs to be affiliated with an F1 team just yet.

"At the moment I don't think it's a massive fuss or need to be with a Formula 1 team," Norris told Motorsport.com.

"It's more maybe later in the future, so end of F3 or during next year when maybe we look at some F1 teams or we start talking with some Formula 1 teams.

"For now, I'm not far enough in my career to make a decision or sign with a Formula 1 team or anything.

"We'll wait until next year or maybe the year after to start doing something."

Norris between F3 and GP3 for next year

A contender for the title in both Formula Renault 2.0 championships, Norris is set to make a step up to either European F3 or GP3 in 2017, with tests planned in both series at the end of this year.

"Plans for next year are not too sure, it's probably going to be out of F3 or GP3, probably more F3.

"I haven't signed or done anything testing this year yet in F3.

"I've never driven a GP3, I've done a few days in a Formula 3 car so I can't really compare, of course I'd like to drive the GP3, I think it would be a good car to drive but overall I think it really is quite similar."

"We will have to wait and see until we've done a few tests later in the year but for now I'm still concentrating on Renault."

Having taken four wins and seven podiums in nine races, Norris is currently leading the Eurocup standings by 26.5 points over closest challenger Max Defourny.
