PATRIZI CONFIDENT OF IMPROVEMENT AFTER DONINGTON QUALIFYING

Michael Patrizi is confident of improving on his midfield qualifying positions in tomorrow's 13th and 14th rounds of the Formula BMW UK Championship after a tough day at Donington Park in England today.

Patrizi qualified 12th fastest for the first race and ninth fastest for the second race, with both races to be held on Sunday. Patrizi's best time in the second qualifying session was only 0.592 seconds behind the fastest time, again showing the competitive nature of the Formula BMW UK Championship.

The Australian was put behind the eight-ball on Thursday (Friday being a rest day) when brake problems hampered him in both practice sessions.

Patrizi, visiting the fast and demanding Donington layout for the first time, lost a large chunk of the day's track time trying to fix the problem, meaning only limited experience and set-up data was gained heading into Saturday's qualifying sessions.

The young West Australian fought on, doing long runs in qualifying to work on a race set-up while also trying to set a fast time. Patrizi will start both races further back than he would prefer, but is confident after today's hard work improved his car.

Formula BMW UK Championship leader Niall Breen will start both of tomorrow's races from pole position.

WHAT HE HAD TO SAY --

"Unfortunately we had a very difficult day today, after a few mechanical issues with the brakes on Thursday robbed us of track time," said Patrizi.

"Because we lost so much time in practice we had to use qualifying to test the car and get it right for tomorrow, as well as trying to set a fast time. It hurts your weekend when you lose so much of the first day and I had to do a lot of laps in qualifying.

"I was around half a second off pole in the second qualifying session, which was good in terms of getting that close after the problems we had, but it still puts us down the order.

"We went into today blind, not really sure what to expect after having so little track time in practice. Considering that we were about half a second off in second qualifying, things are definitely improving.

"Now we just have to look forward to the race. I'm confident that tomorrow's race results will be an improvement on my qualifying results."
