BRATT FACING UPHILL BATTLE AT DONINGTON GP CIRCUIT
Formula Renault UK race-winner Will Bratt has his work cut-out during rounds 15 and 16 of the season at Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit tomorrow, Sunday, 10th September, after a frustrating qualifying session earlier today.
The 18-year-old, from Adderbury near Banbury, is currently seventh overall in the driver standings and also a challenger for the prestigious Donington Park Racing Association Club (DPRAC) Cup, having finished on the podium during the 12th round of the season at the Leicestershire venue's National Circuit at the end of July.
In this afternoon's sole 20-minute Formula Renault UK qualifying period, determining the grid for both of the weekend's races, Will posted a best time of 1m 30.916 seconds meaning he will line up in 13th position for tomorrow morning's 15th round of the season.
Although disappointed with his overall pace due to some grip issues with the rear of his Apotex Pharmaceuticals-backed Scorpio Motorsport car, Will's consistency enabled him to post a second quickest time just two 10ths of a second shy of his best, resulting in another seventh row start for round 16.
Clearly facing two tougher races than he would have liked with uncharacteristic grid starts outside the top 10, Will is nonetheless aiming to produce a superb display in front of the 50,000-plus spectators which are expected to flock to Donington Park tomorrow.
"It'd be fantastic to do well tomorrow, particularly as it's the team's home event, but we certainly have our work cut out and we need to try and make some improvements ahead of the races if we're to challenge for good points finishes", commented Will.
"Qualifying was very tricky, the car just wasn't settled at the rear for some reason and at one point I had quite a big moment at the Old Hairpin. I went into the corner as normal but all of a sudden the whole car snapped sideways which was very strange and obviously not what I was expecting.
"I managed to recover the car but from then on, every time I went into a right-hand turn the back of the car would just step-out on me so it really did compromise any time we would have been able to achieve. Tomorrow is a different day though and although it will be tough, if we can have a couple of top 10 results I'll be fairly satisfied."
Supporting the British round of the World Series by Renault at Donington Park this weekend, Formula Renault UK will provide the first race action of the day tomorrow with round 15 starting at round 10.00. Round 16, meanwhile, will conclude the on-track activities at 16.00.
