With four rounds of the 2006 Formula Renault UK Championship completed, a glance at the results shows the ultra-competitive series already has a quartet of different winners this season -- the latest being 18-year-old Adderbury sensation Will Bratt.
The Scorpio Motorsport star, who took his first ever Formula Renault UK victory after a truly memorable performance at Oulton Park Island Circuit just under a fortnight ago, heads to the country's fastest circuit in a little over a week's time, 3rd/4th June, a superb fourth overall in the championship standings.
Thruxton, near Andover in Hampshire, always provides great race action but the fast, flowing corners of the former airfield venue will provide a great contrast to the technical challenges of Oulton Park, therefore the whole Scorpio team is remaining realistic and knows plenty of hard work is needed to continue its early-season success.
At the corresponding race meeting last year, Will's first full season in single-seaters, he achieved a best result of 14th place but for the upcoming double-header he is aiming much higher and hoping to sustain his position among the top four in the title chase on the back of a richly deserved victory last time out.
Not only was Will's Oulton Park win his maiden success in single-seaters and Scorpio's first victory since 2000, the 18-year-old also became the first ever graduate of the T-Car Championship to win a race in the full Formula Renault UK series.
"Oulton Park was an excellent result for all of us and while we are aiming as high as possible at Thruxton, we're realistic about our chances as there are a lot of drivers who will be very quick", said Will.
"I am relishing the challenge of Britain's fastest track, it's a circuit I really enjoy, and while we're not under-estimating how competitive the weekend will be, I'm confident we will be fast. You need a lot of courage and commitment to find ultimate pace at Thruxton, it's a unique place and we're looking forward to it."
He added: "We certainly capitalised on our front-row start at Oulton but we know Thruxton will be an altogether different challenge so we're going into the weekend knowing there's a lot of hard work to be done to continue our great start to the season."
During the last two rounds at Oulton Park, Will had the benefit of a team-mate for the first time this season with 25-year-old David Epton returning to the Scorpio camp after finalising a late deal with the Apotex Pharmaceuticals-backed team.
Epton, who used to reside close to Thruxton in nearby Fleet, knows the circuit well and so the team is hoping both drivers will be able to put their combined knowledge to good use in order to qualify well and, hopefully, achieve some impressive race results.
