Back to Brands for McIntosh
Vancouver, Canada (June 01, 2005) -- Sean McIntosh returns to race action this weekend as he heads to the legendary Brands Hatch circuit in Kent for Rounds 5 and 6 of the 2005 Formula Renault UK Championship, 4-5th June. Currently tied for second in the point standings, McIntosh is raring to strap back into the #24 Team Firstair entry and resume his title challenge following a month-long break in the race schedule.
Sunday's races, held on the 1.22-mile Indy Circuit at Brands Hatch, mark the first of two visits to the former Grand Prix venue this season with the second event hosting the final two rounds of the series in early October. Sean's immediate priority is to further build on his solid start to the year including a dominant victory by the Canadian in Round 2 at Donington Park and a pair of fourth place finishes last time out at Thruxton.
Since then Team Firstair has expanded to a three car operation with England's Richard Keen joining the line-up alongside Sean and France's Jean-Robert Niogret.
Looking ahead to this weekend's action at Brands Sean commented:
"I'm really excited to get going again! I enjoyed my time off, it's always great to get back home when the schedule permits but I'm really geared up to get the season into full swing now. Brands Hatch is quite a tricky circuit, you really have to be smooth and consistent to run up front, you can't overdrive!
"We tested well there earlier in the season so I'm confident we can maintain our form. The addition of Richard (Keen) to the Team Firstair line-up is a positive move for the team. It's always good to get more information and opinions to discuss set-ups so Richard's speed and input, I'm sure, will be valued."
Brands Hatch holds happy memories for McIntosh as he scored a second place podium finish back in August, propelling him further into the lead of the inaugural 'Graduate Cup' Championship for rookie drivers -- a title he duly wrapped up with a double podium performance at Donington the following month.
Off-track Sean seized the opportunity to return home to Vancouver thanks to the generous gap between Thruxton and this weekend's return to competition at Brands Hatch. While he kept himself busy with regular visits to the gym and a series of media engagements, Sean also took time out to celebrate his 20th birthday with family and friends.
