POINTS SALVAGED AT SILVERSTONE

The CRS Formula Renault team has just returned from a very busy weekend at Silverstone, with three races crammed into one event. The race that was rained off at Brands Hatch back in May was held at Silverstone on Saturday afternoon, ahead of Sunday's two regular races.

Harry Tincknell bagged a podium finish in Saturday's race, taking third place. He started fourth but made a move on championship-leader Tama's Pa'l Kiss going into the hairpin on lap one and stole third. In the first of Sunday's two races Harry got away well and was up to fifth at the start. Unfortunately his race was short-lived as towards the end of lap one he had to brake hard to avoid a spinning Riki Christodoulou, which gave Lewis Williamson the opportunity to get right onto Harry's tail. As they came through the final corner Williamson clipped Harry's rear wing which sent him into the pit wall and out of the race. The final race of the weekend was almost as tough as Harry was running well when he was involved in an accident at Brooklands which knocked him to the back of the field. A spirited drive saw him get back up to 10th to take some points but it really wasn't Harry's weekend.

"It was a shocker really," he said. "It all started well and I had a great start in the Sunday morning race but then it all unravelled. I enjoyed my drive through the field in the last race but my weekend could have and should have been a lot better."

Formula Renault rookie Robert Foster-Jones had one of his best results of the year on Sunday morning. Knowing it would be a damp start he and his engineer opted to set the car up for the damp conditions in order to seize the advantage at the start, even if the payback came later as the track dried. It paid off as Rob went from ninth to sixth on the first lap and kept it there all the way to the chequered flag. The second race on Sunday was a bit harder for Rob. He showed good speed at the start and moved up from 12th as high as seventh before dropping back to 11th at the finish.

"My pace was much better this weekend," he said. "We're still lacking the last two tenths though and as soon as we nail that the results will come."

Michael Lyons had a good run in Saturday afternoon's race, turning his P13 qualifying spot into ninth place. The first race on Sunday was a disappointment for Mick as he was taken out by a guest driver halfway through the race when he was up into the top seven. The contact left him with a broken rear upright and stranded out on the circuit. Considering he was on for his best result of the year it was a real blow for Mick. In the final race he went from 14th to 12th by keeping his head down and doing everything he could to have a clean race. He showed good pace and continues to improve with each event.

The Renault racers have just one weekend off now before they head up to Knockhill in Scotland. With many of the drivers not having raced at Knockhill before it could prove to be an interesting event!
