TINCKNELL LEADS THE WAY AT SNETTERTON
Harry Tincknell took a commanding lights-to-flag victory in the second of this weekend's Formula Renault UK races at Snetterton. This result, combined with the fifth place he took in race one, moves the CRS Racing driver up to joint third place in the championship standings, with nine races to go. Mick Lyons had his best weekend yet with two top ten finishes and fastest lap in race one, proving that the Essex boy is on his way up the order. Rob Foster-Jones had a tougher weekend and despite some great on-track battles had to be content with just one top ten finish.
Harry took pole position for this afternoon's race, which was his third pole of the season. He had a good getaway off the line and made it look easy as he cruised to a confident victory.
"I had to make sure I had a good start," he said. "Once I'd done that I kept my head down so I could build up a good gap to P2. Sometimes the races where you are in the lead all on your own are the hardest as you have to fight to keep your concentration all the way through. I'm really pleased with today. I got the lap record, the sun came out to give us a bit more grip and I got the win so I'm ecstatic."
Mick started race one from eighth place on the grid, which is his best starting position so far this year. He was fully lit from the start and took fastest lap of the race on his way to an eighth place finish. His good form continued in race two where, although he started back in 15th, he fought his way through to tenth with some very mature and confident driving.
Rob enjoyed a good fight back in race one, moving up from 15th on the grid to tenth at the flag. He started race two from ninth but tangled with David McDonald on the first lap, which left him with a mountain to climb. With little opportunity to improve his position he bided his time and went for fastest lap. He just missed it by half a tenth but he and Harry (who took fastest lap) were the only two drivers under the 1:05 barrier. He finished race two in 15th place but not before demonstrating more of the great speed he showed throughout the weekend.
Next up for the CRS Formula Renault team is a very busy weekend of racing at Silverstone in two weeks' time. The competitors have three races at Silverstone as round five, which was postponed earlier in the year due to heavy rain at Brands Hatch, will run there.
