METCALFE SALVAGES SERIES TOP SIX FROM DIFFICULT WEEKEND

AKA Cobra driver Jeremy Metcalfe concluded his most trying race weekend of the 2007 Formula Renault UK season at Croft Circuit yesterday, Sunday, 3rd June, with a best result of seventh position and is now looking ahead to the category's return to Oulton Park in three weeks where he hopes to get his title aspirations back on track.

Producing superb, pace-setting form in official testing at Croft a fortnight ago, Jeremy's weekend got off on the wrong foot on Saturday after a problematic qualifying session before an uncharacteristic mistake at the chicane in round seven forced him to retire.

For Sunday's eighth round of the season, the 19-year-old from Fleet in Hampshire knew he had his work cut-out from seventh on the grid and on the opening lap challenged AKA team-mate Adam Christodoulou for sixth place heading into the complex.

Although not finding a way through, the Loughborough University student looked comfortable in seventh place but as the race passed mid-distance Adriano Buzaid started to get on terms with Jeremy. The Brazilian then tried a lunge on the BRDC Rising Star at the hairpin on lap 11 which resulted in the pair colliding.

Thankfully, Jeremy resumed in seventh position as the errant Buzaid retired and although coming under pressure from Richard Singleton during the closing laps, the BillChaser-backed star held on to the 14-points for seventh place. He now lies in sixth position in the championship standings.

"Croft did promise a lot but, unfortunately, we weren't able to deliver the goods as we expected to so we need to put the weekend behind us and come back strong in three weeks at Oulton Park where we obviously went well last year", said Jeremy.

"I'd like to think we can be back on the podium at Oulton as we do need to start stringing together some consistent results for the championship. I'm disappointed with the way things have gone for us this weekend but we'll be working harder than ever to turn things around during the next two races."

Oulton Park Island Circuit, the venue where Jeremy recorded a brace of outstanding podium finishes and achieved a double ELF/Atol Driver of the Day accolade in 2006, will host rounds nine and 10 of the current season three weeks from now on 23rd/24th June.
