UNFORTUNATE METCALFE SUFFERS DONINGTON DISAPPOINTMENT

Hampshire Formula Renault UK front-runner Jeremy Metcalfe suffered disappointment at Donington Park National Circuit earlier today having seen his hopes of a potential podium challenge come unstuck through no fault of his own, although the 19-year-old can take solace from the fact he remains inside the championship top seven.

The day's opening encounter, round 11, was declared a result after just four racing laps due to safety concerns with heavy rain making the 1.96-mile circuit treacherous. Jeremy did gain one place on his starting position of eighth but before he had the opportunity to make further inroads the race was ended in the interests of driver safety.

Round 12 seemed as though it would hold better luck for the AKA Cobra star and after moving into the top six at the start, Jeremy's fortunes then took a turn for the worse when his team-mate Adam Christodoulou missed his braking point into Goddards Chicane at the end of lap one and forced the BRDC Rising Star off the circuit.

Jeremy did get going once again but a long way down on the rest of the field, however, the Loughborough University student did produce some impressive lap times during his recovery and would eventually come home in 16th position with a best lap just four 10ths of a second shy of the fastestof the race.

"It's been a disappointing weekend, we really need a change of fortune and we thought after the win at Oulton Park a few weeks ago and a couple of good test sessions recently we'd be strong at Donington", reflected Jeremy.

"The windy conditions seemed to be the biggest problem for us in qualifying, it was a totally different direction than to the test day and during today's races, and we just couldn't get the best out of the car which left us with a lot of hard work to do in the races.

"What happened in race two with Adam was a real shame but there are no hard feelings, it was just one of those things that can happen in racing. Now we need to look forward to the next rounds at Snetterton, we know we can be quick there."

Seventh in the championship, Jeremy will be going all-out for a return to the podium and, preferably, his third and fourth victories of the season, when the 13th and 14th rounds of the season take place at the Norfolk venue a fortnight from now on 28th/29th July.

Jeremy's next track outing, however, will take place this Thursday, 19th July, as part of an official test session at Snetterton. There will also be a pre-event test ahead of the seventh race meeting of the season on Friday, 27th July.
