TINCKNELL LEADS THE WAY AT ROCKINGHAM

Reigning Graduate Cup and Winter Cup Champion Harry Tincknell (Exeter) showed why he is one of the favourites for the 2010 Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship title after setting the fastest times on both days of official pre-season testing at Rockingham Motor Speedway on 15th/16th March.

The 18-year-old CRS Racing driver headed the timesheets of the two-day test recording the quickest overall time on the final session of the second day with a 1min 14.627s (93.58mph average). This was preceded by a best time of 1min 14.705s (93.48mph average) on Monday, 15th March around the 1.94-mile International circuit.

Manor Competition's Lewis Williamson (Golspie, Scotland) finished the two-day test as the second quickest overall driver with a 1min 14.837s (93.32mph average) while Mark Burdett Motorsport's Fabio Gamberini (BRA) was the fastest Graduate Cup driver overall.

Day one of the test saw the Championship's youngest competitor Tom Blomqvist (SWE) set the early pace lapping in the mid 1m 15s in his Fortec Motorsport run car, closely followed by Atech GP's Tama's Pa'l Kiss (HUN) who went quickest at Silverstone National circuit last week.

After the lunch break though it was Tincknell who topped the timesheets, ending the day as the fastest driver with his time well inside the lap record for the circuit (1min 15.935s, Dean Smith) as well as faster than last year's quickest pre-season testing time (1min 14.837s, Dean Stoneman). Fortec Motorsport's Ollie Millroy (Surrey) and Graduate Cup driver Alex Lynn (Essex) also ran well on the first day as did Atech GP's Nick Yelloly (Solihull).

The first day also saw cars from the Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship join the Formula Renault UK competitors with SWB Motorsport's Luke Wright (Dorset) the leading driver posting a time of 1min 17.314s (90.33mph average).

The second day of testing, which once again ran in dry, bright conditions, began with Williamson heading the morning timesheets with a best of 1m 15.072s (93.02mph average). Tincknell, Pa'l Kiss and Blomqvist also looked strong around the Northamptonshire circuit which provides the venue for rounds three and four (24th/25th April) of the 20 round series.

Tincknell continued to lead the way in the afternoon session posting his best time on his 22nd of 25 laps completed. Pa'l Kiss and Blomqvist again were among the quicker drivers along with Manor Competition's Will Stevens (Oxshott, Surrey).

Commenting after the second day of testing Tincknell said: "The test has gone really well for us and the car is running well. As with the previous official tests we've been careful to conserve our tyres by limiting the number of laps run, but to still go top is very encouraging. I'm enjoying driving the new car and looking forward to the start of the season."

The next official test takes place on 23rd/24th March at Norfolk's Snetterton circuit while the opening rounds of the Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship take place at Hampshire's Thruxton circuit on 3rd/4th April.
