Montreal - A festive racing ambiance took over the streets of downtown as 42 homemade, ludicrous and/or super performing soapboxes fuelled by nothing but sheer courage, the force of gravity and perhaps a little Red Bull, drove from top to bottom of Beaver Hall Hill in downtown Montreal on Sunday afternoon for the inaugural La course Red Bull boîte à savon. More than 2000 teams applied to compete in this historic event, a first for Montreal.

Fun was had by all participants as well as the tens of thousands of spectators lining up Beaver Hall Hill from the paddock site on the corner of René-Lévesque Boulevard through to the finish line in Square Victoria.

Safety was paramount at La course Red Bull Boîte à savon, with 1,300 bales of hay protecting the drivers, while six-hundred fences kept spectators out of harms way. What struck the fans was the creative design of most of the soapboxes. The six judges had to render their verdicts based on creativity, the complexity of the vehicle and the speed attained by the soapbox before declaring the winner of the event.

The NASCAR Tag 21 Team went all out for sheer speed in the design of their soapbox. "Looking at the car, I would not ride as a co-driver in this device," Tagliani said. "The first thing that comes to my mind after today is the support of the Quebec fans for this event and for our NASCAR Tag 21 Team.

"It shows that fans from all over Quebec and Montreal enjoy all kinds of motorsport racing. I was proud to represent the world of motorsport in this event with our NASCAR soapbox. This is an event that has to return to Montreal, because it enables all participants to contribute to a cause that is dear to their heart, and in the case of the NASCAR Tag 21 Team, Le regroupement de la trisonomie 21 - a Quebec-based Down Syndrome non-profit organization - was a winner. Thanks to the support of La cite de Mirabel, EpiPen and the hard work of the people at SRA Karting, who put so much effort into building our soapbox, we have met our goals," concluded Tagliani.
