FORMULA FORD ZETEC CHAMPIONSHIP Round 7 & 8, Silverstone Saturday/Sunday 10/11th June

The Silverstone 'double-header' for rounds 7 & 8 of the Formula Ford Zetec Championship provided a weekend of joy for rapid-racer, Anthony Davidson. After leading so many races in his rookie season, the 21-year old finally tasted sweet success with a drama-filled 1st place on Sunday and a battling 2nd on Saturday. The results put him firmly in contention for the prestigious Formula Ford title.

Davidson scored his first win of the season on Sunday, June 11, in his BIC sponsored Haywood Racing Mygale, in round 8 of the Championship. It came after a thrilling 3-way battle with the works Van Diemens of James Courtney (Aus) and Robert Dahlgren (Swe).

From 2nd on the grid, Anthony took the lead from Courtney on Lap 1, only for Dahlgren to slip ahead. He re-took the lead in a brave move through the high speed Maggotts corner, but Dahlgren struck back. The pair banged wheels, Dahlgren spun out and Anthony was left with deranged suspension.

Through the drama Robert Bell (GB) briefly hit the front, until Davidson blasted past on the pit straight. With his suspension askew, a loose rear anti-roll bar and smoke billowing from his gearbox, Anthony then had to endure a few laps of pressure from title leader, Courtney. He then broke clear to score a well-deserved and emphatic victory. Page 2/Davidson Does It!

"My car looked and felt more like one of the machines from Mad Max!" Davidson joked after the race. "There was no way anyone was going to take the win from me today. I always thought my title campaign would kick into life at mid-season and I believe I can still win the championship. I just need a few more weekends like this!"

On Saturday, in round 7 of the Championship, Davidson catapulted from 3rd on the grid into 2nd place, diving past Robert Dahlgren in a stunning out-braking manoeuvre into the Abbey hairpin. He then homed-in on James Courtney, setting the fastest lap of the race in the process.

Forcing Courtney to drive defensively for the entire race and with Dahlgren glued to his gearbox, Anthony's Mygale was the meat in a Van Diemen sandwich as he pressured for a win. He finished in 2nd place, the three drivers having fought a titanic battle well clear of the rest of the field.

The championship now heads to Croft on June 24/25. With a win under his belt, Davidson is 3rd in the title race closing on Mark Taylor (GB) for 2nd and with James Courtney in his sights.
