The experienced combination of John Bowe and Jim Richards are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to race in next week¹s Queensland 500 - the new "home race" for the Cat Racing team.

With eight Bathurst victories between the duo, the Bowe and Richards combination is keen to emulate Cat Racing¹s success at the Queensland Raceway sprint round in July, but know repeating that performance is going to be tough.

Having recently relocated to the Brisbane base of new owner John Briggs, the team is hopeful of a strong result.

"We had a blinding single lap qualifying set-up for the Queensland sprint round this year - then went backwards at a hundred mile an hour in the first race," Bowe said.

"While things came good at the end, tyres were still a problem and the team that does the best job of finding that solution will win the race.

"Tyre dramas will also dictate tactics in the 500. While V8 racing can sometimes resemble a bit of a runaway freight train - I reckon you will see lots of passing at the 500 as tyres go off.

"I am really looking forward to teaming up with Jim because I know he will do fantastic job in the car.

"Pit strategies will also be absolutely critical because boys in the team play a much larger role in long distance races as compared to sprint events."

Having just clinched the Australian GT Production Car Championship at Oran Park last week, Richards is keen to again do battle in a V8 Supercar.

"JB has done a great job in the Cat car this year and his form at the Queensland sprint round indicates the team should be pretty quick," Richards said.

"I¹m really looking forward to jumping in with JB at Queensland and Bathurst and getting back into the V8 action.

"I¹ve done a handful of laps in the car and will test again next week, but the car felt really strong when I drove it a few weeks ago."

The drive for Richards will be his first aboard a Falcon since contesting Bathurst with Rod Coppins in 1977.

Bowe is currently in 7th place in the 1999 Shell Championship Series points standings, but both Bowe and Richards have to chance to earn double points at the Queensland 500 and Bathurst events.
