TASMANIAN HOME SOIL ATTACK FOR BOWE & THE CAT PACK

Fresh from Cat Racing¹s first ever championship podium result at Calder Park, Tasmanian John Bowe is keen to repeat the dose on home soil at Symmons Plains near Launceston next week.

The Devonport resident has not enjoyed the best of luck in front of a home crowd fans in recent years, including being spun around on the run to the hairpin in the opening lap of last year¹s first race.

Having recently achieved Cat Racing¹s first pole position, race win and podium position in recent weeks, Bowe is hopeful his run of good fortune will continue next week.

"I¹ve won a lot races at Symmons Plains during my career, but have never had a lot of luck there in touring cars," Bowe said.

"Hopefully this is about to change. We pulled a result out of the fire at Calder Park because we never really came up with strong set-up over the weekend.

"Symmons will be tough because the entire touring car pack will have to be on their best behavior as there is not a lot of room for error."

With the run to the famous Symmons Plains hairpin lined by armco barriers on both sides, Bowe believes all V8 Supercar drivers will have to respect each other¹s racing room on the circuit.

"I was amazed at Calder that the so-called cream of Australia¹s racing drivers were unable to stop running into each other when racing on the straight," Bowe said.

"If this behavior continues at Symmons, we could be in for some major problems.

"I was so lucky last year not to have a major accident. Being spun around and watching all the traffic come at you is not a lot of fun."

According to Bowe, one of the secrets to success at Symmons Plains will be to find a race set-up that puts the power down well out of the hairpin.

"It is without doubt one of the slowest corners we have in Australia and it is a real challenge trying to get the power down without hurting the tyres," Bowe said.

"If you can get out of there well, you can then make a run at the guy in front of you to try to gain a position."

"I am really looking forward to the weekend and the chance to fly the Cat flag in front of some of the local fans,

"The support we have received this year from the fans has been great and I would love to give them something to cheer about in Tassie."
