ATCC: ATCC: Wellington cancelled

The traditional touring car street race in Wellington, New Zealand, has been cancelled for 1995.

Last year the event was a round of the Asia-Pacific Touring Car Championship but this series, for 2-litre super-touring cars, was cancelled this year and the Wellington organisers decided to run the feature event for the Australian 5-litre V8 touring cars. The meeting, scheduled for December 3, has now been definitely called off, because not enough of the Aussie cars entered.

However the Wellington City Council and sponsors Mobil say the event will be revived in 1996, probably at a different date. The format of the feature race remains to be decided.

The Motorsport Association of NZ believes the APTCC could be on again next year, and Wellington could again become a round of this series. Another suggestion is that Wellington apply for a round of the BPR Karcher Global Endurance GT series.
