The award was presented for Warwick's work with young British drivers.
He has been integral to the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award in recent years, both serving as a judge and offering ongoing support and advice to the finalists.
Warwick received the award from GP3 champion George Russell and Formula 3 European champion Lando Norris - both past McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner.
"I'm humbled," said a surprised Warwick, who had not been aware he was set to receive the award.
"Seeing these young drivers come through has been pretty special, seeing them progress is a massive boost. What I see on this stage is something very, very special."
This year Warwick stepped down from the presidency of Silverstone's owner the British Racing Drivers' Club, a role in which he had played a major part in the British Grand Prix's recent success.
Warwick was one of Britain's leading F1 drivers in the 1980s, and though never a grand prix winner he produced an abundance of heroic underdog performances for the likes of Toleman, Renault, Brabham and Arrows.
His racing also encompassed stints in sportscars and touring cars, including a spell as a factory Jaguar Group C driver - though it would be with Peugeot that he won Le Mans in 1991.
In addition to his BRDC duties, Warwick has also regularly served as the drivers' representative on the F1 stewards' panel.
