ST. EUSTACHE, QUE. -- September 23, 2001: British Columbian racer Josh Beaulieu capped off his season in style - leading all 35 laps, setting fastest lap, and winning the eighth and final round of the Canadian Formula Ford series on Sunday. After qualifying his Dowco Vector-Ford racecar on pole position, Beaulieu pulled steadily away from the field to win by 3.134 seconds over Toronto's Mark Wilkins and hometown favorite Edouard Aubé. It was the third race this season in which Beaulieu led from lap 1 until the chequered flag.

"I had a great start, my best start of the season," Beaulieu said. "Mark pushed very hard, just like in the July event here at St. Eustache, which forced me to drive at the limit for the entire race. My team did a fantastic job with the car and the balance was very consistent. I feel very grateful to everyone who has supported me, and am so happy about this win! Without the support of Dowco, Western Waffles, Compact Radial Engines, CPM Vancouver, Granville Centre for Dental Wellness and my other great sponsors - this season would not have been possible."

Josh Beaulieu finishes his rookie year in an impressive 3rd position, after a season of up and downs. The year started with an unfortunate mechanical problem at Mosport, but then Beaulieu took a convincing win at the Montreal Formula One Grand Prix in June. He then followed it up with another win three weeks later in St. Eustache, only to be subsequently disqualified for a technical irregularity in an engine component. Beaulieu then took a 3rd place in the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres and 4th place at Mosport, before his win on Sunday. The entire Canadian Formula Ford season is being broadcasted nationwide on Sportsnet between September 4 and October 14. (For details on the TV coverage, go to http://www.joshbeaulieu.com.)

Beaulieu's team owner, Mauro Lanaro, was impressed with the young Canadian's performance this season. "Since the beginning we had good communication, and you could see right away that Josh has a significant amount of natural talent," Lanaro said. "He showed consistent improvement during the season. It is unfortunate that there was a very questionable disqualification after his second win, because otherwise he would have won the championship as a rookie. My opinion is that he has the capability to excel in the highest levels of racing as long as his progress continues, and if he can surround himself with the right people and enough backing."

Josh Beaulieu, in only his third year of auto racing, has established himself as part of the next generation of Canada's racing stars.
