June 9, 2001 (Langley, BC) - In only his second professional race, Langley driver Josh Beaulieu took his first Canadian Formula Ford win at the Air Canada Grand Prix weekend in Montreal.
Beaulieu's Dowco.com-Vector started in sixth position after he had some handling problems in qualifying. By the end of the first lap of the race, Beaulieu blitzed his way into first place and held the lead for the remainder of the 41-mile race on Le Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. He then pulled out to an impressive four second lead to finish ahead of Montreal's Edouard Aube and Robert Boyer. d> "I am absolutely over the moon," said Beaulieu. "I was aiming for a podium finish, because we had some problems with the balance of the car in qualifying and I wasn't sure if it would be any better today. But the team really did a great job all weekend and gave me a good car for the race. It was difficult to pull away from Edouard, as he was running very quick and consistent, but my car's balance got better toward the second half of the race."
"Racing on the Formula 1 circuit gives quite a high emotional feeling. I think practicing with the F1 computer game helped me learn the track! This is by far the best day so far in my racing career, and I aim to keep this momentum and score some consistent strong finishes for the remainder of the season."
Round three of the Canadian Formula Ford Championship will be held June 22-24 at the Mosport International Raceway in Ontario. The 8-race series will be aired across Canada in the fall on CTV SportsNet.
Josh Beaulieu, in only his third year of auto racing, has established himself as part of the next generation of Canada's racing stars. His detailed results and news are on the internet at www.joshbeaulieu.com
