Changan Ford Racing Team: double win to start the season
The heavy rain on Sunday afternoon resulted in an even more unpredictable race. Tengyi Jiang won the home round clinching his first ever winner trophy in touring car race. Three other Changan Ford drivers Andy Yan, Martin Cao and Rainey He captured 4th, 5th and 6th, respectively. Changan Ford racing team was the team winner of 2010 CTCC race 1 and a double win certainly was a brilliant start of the season.
The race started half hour ahead of the original schedule in order to avoid the heavy rain. The 29-laps'2000cc race started under wet condition with Tengyi Jiang, Rainey He on the front row, Martin Cao on 2nd row and Andy Yan on 4th. Three Focus cars led the fleet into T1. Lo Ka Fai moved up and passed Martin Cao. In lap 2, Billy Zhang ran off the track due to a rear contac. In lap 4, KIA 778 team Shaofeng Wang and his teammate Lo Ka Fai contacted, Lo retired from the race with his car stopped in the middle of the track. Safety car was sent to lead the race.
After the safety car left, Michael Ho grabbed the opportunity and moved to the lead when passing T1. Jiang managed to approach Ho gradually and took back his lead eventually. In the end, Tengyi Jiang won the race. Rainey He got off to a good start but his windshield fogged up and he had to go back to fix that. Rainey He fell to the end of the fleet when he rejoined the race and captured a convincing 6th in the end. Andy Yan shown again his good consistence, started 8th and finished 4th. Martin Cao overcame all the unexpected incidents and got 4 points. Michael Ho and Lo Ca Chun finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively. With so many cars failed to finish the race, all cars from Changan Ford Racing team finished the race with points gained shown the strong competitive ability of the team.
Jiang indicated at the after race press-con:" When the safety car left, I still thought it was my teammate driving behind me and I was surprised when Michael moved up to the lead. Good thing was there were still enough laps for me to fight back. I would thank again my team for preparing such a good car and I am happy with the result."
