A podium for Twofast Racing
Montreal, June 5, 2007 - Twofast Racing drivers' Eric LeBlanc and Christian Raymond delivered another outstanding performance this weekend in the second round of the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship presented by Toyo Tires, held in Shannonville. Twofast Racing recorded its first podium finish of the season on Sunday afternoon, after LeBlanc finished third in his Subaru WRX STi.
"The weekend started really well and we had a great practice Friday," exclaimed LeBlanc. "We made some changes from Friday's practice and we were right on. Qualifying fourth Saturday made me really confident for the race. The car was really good and confidence-inspiring, which is what you need on a circuit like this! The season inaugurates really well for the Subaru."
On Saturday's pre-finals, Eric was driving a prefect race until Sacha Anis caused an incident with his Nissan 240 SX: "Everything was going well until this unfortunate event." said LeBlanc. "I lost 3 positions and finished 7th. My mechanics worked very hard all night to put the car back in shape. Furthermore, we also changed the suspension's set-ups, in order to improve the handling of the car. "
On Sunday's race, Eric showed his talent and quickly moved up to second, before conceding his position to Etienne Borgeat, victim of overheating tires, finishing 3rd and on the podium for the first time of the season. No bad for the brand new Subaru!
The companion Mazda Protege driven by Christian Raymond had a whole different story.
After only 3 laps in Friday's practice, the V6 engine of the 04 Mazda blew up, leaving Christian with no other options but to go back in Blainville, and pick up a new engine in the spare car. A 7-hour ride.
Back on track Saturday morning, Christian qualified 12th with only 5 laps under the belt. Very good under the circumstance.
"What a day," relayed Christian, Twofast Racing owner and driver of the team's No. 04 Mazda Protege. "It has been a lot of work to get here today. My guys really came together to get this cars on the track early Saturday. I am really proud of them."
"Yves Bedard has been a great addition, and will be a huge asset to the team," said Raymond. "After qualifying, he watched my in-car camera and discovered small driving mistakes. Combined with some car adjustments, the car handled better immediately. I am really proud to have him as our Team Manager, he has great knowledge of race cars."
"I was doing well in the first few laps. I got as low as seventh. I had a good run coming out of 11 but then I hit the break too late in 12, went in the grass for about 100 feet loosing precious time and positions. I went from seventh to fifteenth, ruining my top-10 hopes."
"The car was good and the team did a great job," Raymond said. "We were a little bit unlucky in the race with Eric receiving some hard contact, but Eric ran a good race and the team performed well, so I am very pleased."
The next race will be at the Grand Prix of Toronto, on July 6, 7 and 8.
