26 drivers have entered the 2002 Danish Touringcar Championship
With the closure of the deadline for this year's Danish Touringcar Championship on April 1st, a total number of 26 drivers have been entered for the serie. The 26 drivers are entered by 15 different teams, who will make use of eleven different marques and 13 different car models, making the 2002 Danish Touringcar Championship one of Europe's most versatile tin top series!
New manufacturers for this year will be Alfa Romo -- who has a singleton entry for teenager Kasper Jensen - and Toyota, who will be entering two examples of the brand new Toyota Corolla, which has been developed by Jørgen Nielsen, one of the country's most experienced racing car builders. The two Corollas will be driven by 2000 European Rally Champion, Henrik Lundgaard, and former Mercedes DTM regular, Kurt Thiim.
Racing for Denmark Team Essex Invest is a new team, masterminded by John Nielsen, who will also be driving one of the two Carly Motors-built BMW 320i alongside protege and FIA SCC partner, Casper Elgaard. Another newcomer to the series is K-motorsport, who field two Honda Civic Type-R built by JAS Engineering in Italy. Team manager of K-motorsport will be Carl-Erik Kristensen, the father of triple Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen, while Tom's younger brother, Jacob, will drive one of the cars. The other car is entered for Henrik Larsen, who is mainly known for ending as runner-up to Mika Hakkinen in the 1987 GM Lotus Euroseries.
Reigning Danish Touringcar Champion Michael Carlsen comes with a brand new racing version of the Peugeot 307 GTI, as does Peugeot Statoil Motorsport, who has two cars for Jason Watt and Jan Magnussen, while youngster Martin Jensen will drive Watt's 306 from last year.
