Clio Cup champion partners Thompson at Hartmann

Hartmann Honda Racing has now finalized its line-up for this year's Danish Touringcar Championship. A fortnight after the team extended its contract with last year's race winner James Thompson it has struck a deal with Per Poulsen to drive one of the team's Honda Accords.

"This is something I have dreamt about for many years," Per Poulsen says. "Now, I will be going for it, and I think that I will be fully competitive. During the winter break the cars have been updated to a level, where we will be competitive, so I am really looking forward to driving for Hartmann."

Last year Per Poulsen had his best season to date, when he became a very convincing winner of the Reanult Clio Cup with wins in 12 of the 16 races. The championship should have marked the end of his career, as he had decided to stop racing. But then he got contacted by team owner Hans Hartmann.

"Hans rang me when I was sitting on a ski lift during my winter holiday, and I almost fell of in surprise," Per Poulsen says. "Suddenly things had to happen fast, as I had already told all my sponsors that I would stop racing. But a lot of them were very positive about it, so it didn't last long for me to inform the team that we could start negotiating. Of course I also had to check up with my family, but they also gave me their full support, which I am really glad for."

Per Poulsen has yet to have his first drive this year in his new racing car, but he is sure that it is a dream come true.

"I have dreamt of driving in the DTC for a FWD team, and for this the Honda is not only a good car," Per Poulsen says. "Hans is also a marvellous guy, who lives and breathes racing like myself. I am really looking forward to working together with James, who is a driver you can really measure yourself against. We do also get good support from the Italian engineers, and I am convinced that I will be gaining from that."

"I do believe that we have good team, even though things won't be easy this year," Hans Hartmann says about the team's driver line-up. "I am pleased that our team once again can inject fresh blood into the DTC series. James has the format to fight at the sharp end of the field, and Per will be a joker who can make life difficult for the other drivers."

Hans Hartmann of course knows every detail of his driver's CV, but as Per Poulsen has won his many Renault Clio Cup wins at a time during the race weekend, where Hartmann Honda Racing have been preparing their cars of the DTC races, he has a very limited impression of his new mount's ability in race situations.

"Two years ago Per tested for us, and he performed really fine. With a World class driver like James to partner him I am fully convinced that we will be competitive this year," Hans Hartmann says.

"Per will also be running with one of the latest spec engines and his car will be having the same set-up as James's. We hope that the professionals in the field can be challenged by a privateer. There are some new issues for Per to learn, such as the rolling starts, but I do believe that he will be competitive during the season."
