Philippe Favre to race in Danish touring car series.
The experienced Swiss substitutes for Norwegian Faraas at Jyllands-Ringen Norwegian Thomas Faraas, who is one of two regular drivers for Renault Motorsport Denmark in this year's Danish Touringcar Championship, has been forced to stand down from this weekend event at Jyllands-Ringen, as he has a clashing racing commitment in one of the Norwegian racing series that he also takes part in.
However, Welshman Julian Westwood will not be the team's single representative for round three on Sunday, as High Class Racing - who is responsible for Renault Motorsport Denmark's DTC set-up - has finalized a deal with experienced Swiss, Philippe Favre, to race the team's second Renault Megane Estate.
Sunday's DTC race will be the first in Denmark for Philippe Favre. Thus, the number of drivers with Formula 1 experience in the field will double, as former Stewart Grand Prix driver Jan Magnussen is also entered in a car for Peugeot Statoil Motorsport. When racing in the 1990 International Formula 3000 Championship as a works driver for Leyton House, Favre also tested the Grand Prix cars, which were raced on a regular basis by Ivan Capelli and Mauricio Gugelmin.
Beside his one-off outing in the Danish Touringcar Championship the Geneva-based Swiss is racing for Team Larbre Competition in this year's French GT Championship, where he is piloting a Porsche 996 GT3-RS. Favre, who finished runner-up to the late Roland Ratzenberger in the 1986 Formula Ford Festival, has several starts in endurance sports car classics at Le Mans, Daytona, Sebring and Spa-Francorchamps to his credit, and last year he twice managed to put the works Lister Storm car on pole in the FIA GT Championship at Hungaroring and Magny Cours respectively.
