1999 BANKFIN TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP ROUNDS 15 AND 16, EAST LONDON GRAND PRIX CIRCUIT ACE DAY, 16/10/99

Briton Mark Peters (BP Nissan Primera) took his second win of the season in the first of the two races with Anthony Taylor (Engen Audi) claiming his second chequer for the season later in the day.

Pole sitter Duncan Vos (BP Nissan Primera) made the running in the early laps but gave up the lead to Peters midway through when he outbraked himself onto the main straight. He recovered to finish second with Terry Moss (Engen Audi) taking the final podium place after having battled up from ninth on the grid - passing reigning champion Giniel de Villiers (BP Nissan Primera) on the last lap.

A sudden rainsquall midway through the race had drivers on their toes and when Vos went wide Shaun Watson-Smith (Petronas Opel Vectra) was looking good for second until his battery lost power and he was forced to retire.

Taylor set up his winning run in the second race with a demon outbraking move at Cocobana on the second lap, coming from fourth to second. He then unceremoniously forced his way past race leader Marco do Santos (Valid Value Nissan Primera), the youngster dropping back to ninth as a result.

Watson-Smith managed to power past Taylor of lap eight but could not hold it together and spun off, giving Taylor a clear run to finish five seconds ahead of the Sasol BMWs of Shaun van der Linde and Michael Briggs.

All three works Nissans made heavy weather of race spinning off at various times - Peters giving up third place when he went off to finish ninth.
