Spa's fast straights to be a challenge for Volvos.

The seventh round of the LG Super Racing Weekend series will take place at the magnificent Belgian circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, a long, challenging track. The weekend of racing will include the 13th and 14th rounds of the FIA European Touring Car Championship, which will be held on the Saturday prior to the Proximus 24 Hours of Spa. This weekend's racing sees the last action until September 22nd as the teams have their mid-season break.

Rickard Rydell scored two podium finishes at Oschersleben, Germany three weekends ago and so keeps his 10kg of success ballast. The BMWs of Jorg and Dirk Muller dominated the races in Germany and are the other drivers with ballast. This leaves the Alfa Romeos without handicap and hence having a distinct advantage on a track that suits their superior engine power. With the Volvo S60 not being ideally suited to the circuit good results for the team are going to depend on skilful driving and the drivers capitalising on errors and incidents from others. The third Volvo S60 will make its second appearance. Flash Engineering will be running the car driven by Jans `Flash' Nilsson.

Rickard Rydell:

"I'm really looking forward to racing at Spa. It's a very popular circuit with drivers; probably not my favourite but it is a great track. I've raced there a little and know it well enough. I think that where we are now with the car we should have a good chance. The straights are perhaps a bit too straight for the Volvos to compete with the power of the Alfas and BMWs but we should to be up there with them."

James Hanson:

"I'm aiming for points from a good race weekend. I've spent some time learning the circuit so I can use the practice sessions to find the best set-up rather than learning the circuit like I had to at Oschersleben. Hopefully the Volvo will be able to carry its good corner speed into the straights which will help."

Dave Benbow, race team manager:

"Spa is quite obviously very different to Oschersleben and I expect that Alfa Romeo will be back at full strength down the very long straights. I would expect good performances from the Volvos through the ups and downs and twists and turns that have so far proved to be the Volvo's stronger points."
