FORT WORTH-DALLAS (April 20, 1999) - Most fans of auto racing have the burning desire to get behind the wheel of a race car. Their wish can come true at the Star-Telegram AutoFest featuring the Pate Swap Meet at Texas Motor Speedway.
Fans will be able to drive Legends Cars and Bandoleros on Saturday, May 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Lil’ Texas Motor Speedway. Legends Cars are 5/8-scale replicas of stock cars from the 1930s and 1940s while Bandoleros are vehicles designed to help young adults enter the sport of racing.
"Many fans would love to drive a race car themselves if they could afford it," said Fred Meis of P&H Racing, the Texas distributor for Legends and Bandoleros. "This gives them the opportunity to drive a Legends Car or Bandolero on an actual race track."
Lil’ Texas Motor Speedway is a one-fifth mile asphalt oval and is home to several Legends and Bandolero races each season. All safety equipment will be provided for the driving sessions. The fee for ten laps in a Legends Car is $50 with ten laps around the oval in a Bandolero costing $40.
Legends and Bandolero cars are race-ready and are designed to limit maintenance costs. Current Legends and Bandolero racers are from every segment of the work force including many corporate presidents and executives.
More than 75 Legends and Bandolero racers are slated to compete in the Saturday afternoon, May 1, race program at Lil’ Texas Motor Speedway. The races are included in the price of that day’s $6.00 adult admission to the Star-Telegram AutoFest featuring the Pate Swap Meet.
For further information on the Legends and Bandolero driving sessions, contact P&H Racing at (817) 485-7223. AutoFest information may be obtained by calling Texas Motor Speedway at (817) 215-8500.
