Reigning South African Formula Ford champion Robert Wolk (AfintaPart Mygale) carries a healthy 20 point championship lead into round five of the Vodacom Power Tour at Kyalami this weekend (25 June), but is aware that there will be a number of drivers hoping to topple him from his perch at the head of the field.

As in the opening round of the series at Kyalami, 19-year old Wolk was forced to share the spoils in round four at Port Elizabeth with championship rival Stevie Morris (DAW Racing /Investchem Mygale). He dominated race one for his fifth win of the year after Morris spun and collected a few of the front runners, but in race two he had to settle for third place. However, the combined result was enough for him to extend his series lead.

Englishman Morris managed to repair his car for race two to take his third victory of the year. There was speculation that Port Elizabeth would be his last race as the car he has driven this year was due to be leased to a third party, but a deal has been agreed and he will line up on the grid at Kyalami.

David Veringa in the Sabat / Playstation2 Van Diemen has endured a torrid season. His misfortune continued at Port Elizabeth when he was hit by the spinning Morris and forced out for the day. Having started the season as one of the title favourites Veringa has suffered a number of mishaps and has yet to show the speed necessary to take a win. Consistency sees him third in the points standings, but he will be desperate for that first win of the year after taking two second place finishes at the opening round at Kyalami.

Consistency has also seen Donovan Howard (Associated Auto / WAP Alto Mygale) claw his way into fourth place in the championship. He is yet to score a win, but has shown great improvement this year and will be looking to mix it at the head of the field.

Armani Jamrozinski (Diesel / Pilot Freight Van Diemen) missed the first two rounds of the series, but two second places in Port Elizabeth to go with a third and fourth in the previous round has seen him catapult up to fifth in the standings. He is a proven race winner so can't be discounted for a win this weekend.

Martin Robinson (HydroMobile Mygale) lies sixth in the championship after also scoring consistently during the year. He could only manage a fifth and eighth place last time out, so will be hoping for an improved performance this weekend.

Jayde Kruger (Wap Alto Mygale) has shown that he is quick enough to run at the head of the pack, but he lacks consistency. Four non-scores sees him lagging in equal sixth place in the standings, but he deserves better than that.

Craig Allan (City Lodge / Audio Dynamics Van Diemen) is another who, on his day, can compete with the best. He qualified in pole position in Cape Town and won the first race, only to be penalised for a jumped start. He has not shown that form again, but has the pace to be a winner if he has a good day.

Ford's development driver Jennifer Murray (Ford Credit/Ford Racing Van Diemen) showed some of her old pace in Port Elizabeth when she qualified in fifth place. She finished a solid sixth in race one, but a gamble on rain tyres for race two did not pay off for her. However, the event did show that once she gets to grips with her new Van Diemen she will once again run up front with the leaders. <pre> Championship points after round 4: 1) Robert Wolk 74 2) Steven Morris 54 3) David Veringa 35 4) Donovan Howard 29 5) Armani Jamrozinski 27 6) Martin Robinson 21 6) Jayde Kruger 21
