Local heroes bid for Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup glory

Local drivers Carl Breeze and Matt Allison come to Snetterton this weekend aiming for honours, albeit with differing levels of Ginetta G50 experience.

King's Lynn's Carl Breeze heads the Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup as the teams head to Snetterton this weekend, the local ace keen to secure the crown having been a prodigious race winner in 2009. In contrast Matt Allison (Norwich) is tackling his first races since 2008 when he raced in the Clio Cup.

For Breeze, with five wins under his belt already, this is a weekend where he needs to extend his advantage over title rival Frank Wrathall. Breeze's TCR-run car heads the Dynojet entry of Wrathall by just 14 points and Wrathall is driving better than ever this season, three wins having been scooped by the youngster.

These two have positioned themselves as the drivers to beat within the championship but the emerging threat is Tom Sharp (IDL). Tom, a former Ginetta Junior front-runner, has been on the G50 grid since the series began at Oulton Park in 2008 and has shown flashes of pace. Everything started to come good at Croft where he bagged two wins and if he can maintain that form for the remainder of the year he should become a greater factor. He will need to be mindful of rapid newcomer Adam Morgan who also took a win in North Yorkshire and has proved he can run at the front.

Ben Hetherington lies third and is a consistent points scorer, while Stephen Tyldsley showed much better form at Oulton Park when he switched to Charlie Kemp's HHC Motorsport squad and the former Renault Clio racer should go well here. Add in Joachim Ritter's TCR entry, the quick if under-funded Chris Dittman and reigning Ginetta G20 champion Mark Davies and there should be battles all the way through the field.

Colin White remains the man to beat in the Chairman's Cup with Tony Hughes as his main opposition, although White is a major thorn in the side of many of the younger drivers as he battles his way towards the front of the field. Hughes meanwhile, in the Speedworks-run car, is getting faster with each outing and could spring a surprise this weekend.

Qualifying for the Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup takes place at 10.45 on Saturday August 7th with race one, over 11 laps, starting at 13.45. Race two, also on Saturday. Starts at 17.15 and runs for 18 laps, as does race three on Sunday at 13.30
