A tough Hill to conquer in the Ginetta Junior Championship
Jake Hill is proving to be top dog in the Ginetta Junior Championship this year, with six race wins to his name as the championship heads to Snetterton this weekend.
In his second season of Ginetta Junior racing, Jake Hill is firmly established as the driver to beat. Jake, who had to skip a large chunk of the 2009 season due to a lack of funding, has bounced back more determined than ever. In the early events, he took a run of four Sunday race wins, all the Saturday ones escaping his grasp for myriad reasons, but at Croft he did the long-awaited double and clinched both race victories. Jake has carried the tag of being fast but occasionally erratic since he began in Ginetta Juniors but at Croft he certainly shook off that reputation. He didn't put a wheel wrong and his two race wins were classy. He comes to Snetterton with an 11-point cushion over Tom Ingram and will be eager to build on it.
But those 11 points could easily be made up if Hill slips up. Tom Ingram, the winner of the opening race at Thruxton, is the man closest to Jake and has had a consistent season, scoring points in every race to date. He may not have taken as many wins as Hill, but he sure knows how to finish and that is key to success in the closest racing on the TOCA package.
Third in the championship comes the best-placed female racer, Louise Richardson, who, at Oulton Park, proved she can race with, and defend against, anyone. Her pace there was good and her never-give-up attitude marked her out as a formidable opponent.
Tom Howard is currently sixth in the championship and the High Wycombe driver regards Snetterton as his home circuit. WIth 40 guests on hand to cheer him on, Tom will be looking to draw himself back into contention for the title. Another driver keen to do well on home ground is Jake Giddings who has enjoyed a solid season to date.
With reigning champion Sarah Moore struggling to mirror last year's form, she will be eager to turn around her season here, while brother David is another showing improved pace of late.
Expect the typical fast and frantic action from the teenage hotshots on a circuit that lends itself to slipstreaming racing. Get ready!
Free practice for the Ginetta Junior Championship is at 09.00 on Saturday August 7th with qualifying at 11.55. The two races, both 9 laps in length, are on Sunday August 8th at 10.30 and 16.20.
