Guerrieri captures victory at Canadian Grand Prix!

Toronto, June 11, 2002 - It was a dream come true for 18-year old racecar driver Christopher Guerrieri who captured a brilliant victory in the Formula Ford race held at the famed Canadian Grand Prix last weekend. Despite the treacherous wet conditions, Guerrieri piloted like a veteran and never put a wheel wrong all race long. The rookie driver from Pickering, Ontario qualified third for the 15-lap feature and powered from third to first position in just eight laps.

Although running in third place behind race leader Didier Schraenen and Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, Guerrieri kept his cool and waited for the right moment to attack the leaders. "I was very calm before this most important race. And because it had rained hard before the start, we made some set up changes to the Vector until the moment we rolled it onto the starting grid," Guerrieri declared after the race. "I did a lot of mental training before the race and I knew exactly what I had to do to win this one."

On lap 4, Guerrieri passed Dumoulin for second place. However, he was four seconds down to the leading Schraenen. But in just three laps, Christopher caught the first place man and passed him under braking at the Jacques Cartier bridge hairpin. The rookie was then in the lead but had to defend his position against Dumoulin who had also moved ahead of Schraenen. "I knew I was in full control of the race. The Vector was handling perfectly in the rain and I wanted badly to win in front of all Formula 1 drivers and team owners," Guerrieri declared.

On lap 15, the flag saluted Christopher Guerrieri's maiden victory in professional Formula Ford racing. "This was really great. Mauro Lanaro's LM La Scuderia team has worked extremely hard to give me fantastic car for this event. I'm delighted to have won my first Formula Ford race here in Montreal. Formula 1 has been a dream since I was a kid and to win here in front of the best race car drivers in the world is extremely satisfying."

Christopher intends to repeat his winning performance in three weeks as the Canadian Formula Ford Championship moves to Autodrome St-Eustache, Quebec for race number three. "We'll be competing on a quite different circuit - it is a massively slower than Montreal - but I'm really looking forward to winning this next race!"
