Formula Ford ace gains experience in Ice Racing.

Toronto, Ontario, February 14, 2003 - Pickering, Ontario's Christopher Guerrieri - the race car driver who claimed the prestigious "Rookie of the Year" title in the Canadian Formula Ford Championship last year - has decided to hone his driving skills this winter by competing in the Ontario ice racing series. The switch from a lightweight, nimble single seater to a heavier sedan car fitted with studded tires has deeply impressed the 19-year old driver.

"The driving in an ice racing car is totally different from what I am used to," said Guerrieri who won the Formula Ford race held at the famed Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix this past June. "First, the track conditions change constantly. Every corner is different every lap. And the difference in temperature from the morning to the afternoon makes the car react very differently."

Guerrieri is driving a rear-wheel drive Toyota in the events held in Minden, Ontario. "In ice racing, you're constantly sliding the car. It never points forward," Guerrieri explained. The young driver indicated that Mauro Lanaro, the owner of team LM La Scuderia for whom he raced last year, persuaded him to gain valuable driving experience in doing ice racing. "Mauro (Lanaro) explained me that there are some similarities between ice racing and driving a race car fitted with slick tires. The radial tires as those used in Formula Ford tend to wash out before they slip while the slick tires have a lot of grip but when they let go, they let go big time. It's about the same in ice racing. It teaches me to find the absolute limits of the tires and that will greatly help me in the future."

For Lanaro and Guerrieri, knowing to slide the car under control is the key factor to go fast. "If you look at all the very fast Formula 1 and CART Series drivers, they all slide their cars around. It's very difficult to notice it but their cars are not on rails. Michael Schumacher slides his Ferrari in the corners - just so slightly. And that's exactly what I am now learning to do."

In regards to the 2003 racing season, an announcement should be made soon. We're currently looking at various options and we're busy putting together the most effective marketing program," Guerrieri declared. "We're also looking at the long term to see what is the best series to take us to Formula 1 or CART racing. We'll make an announcement soon, probably within the next few weeks."
