Bicester, UK, Tuesday 3rd April 2001: Stefan Johansson may be best known for his driving ability and racing career that has included Formula One and now sees him as a leading contender to win the European Le Mans Series in the Gulf-sponsored Audi R8. He also has a successful watch making business, H III Watches of Geneva, and has agreed to provide limited edition time-pieces to the winning drivers at each round of the ELMS. The first round takes place at Donington Park, UK, on 13th/14th April. The outright championship winners will be awarded with an engraved special edition gold watch.
"I'm delighted to extend my involvement in the European Le Mans Series beyond racing. For many years I have had an interest in design and have been an avid collector of watches. I have produced commemorative watches for a number of racing drivers and am delighted to have this association with the European Le Mans Series. The ELMS has all the making of a very successful and exciting championship with large grids and very competitive cars and drivers - at least a few of them will now be able to improve their punctuality!"
Whilst driving for the Ferrari Formula One team, Stefan's association with a leading Swiss watch manufacturer sparked the idea of designing and retailing a brand of watches. 'H III' represents Stefan's philosophy on life - honesty, humour and happiness.
