Jimmy Clark Honored at Miller Motorsports Park During Zions Bank Heroes of Speed Weekend

TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (August 7, 2007) -- The legendary Jimmy Clark, who won two Formula 1 World Championships (1963 and 1965) and the 1965 Indianapolis 500 before his untimely death in 1968, was honored at Miller Motorsports Park during the Zions Bank Heroes of Speed presented by The Grand and Little America Hotels.

Clark's photo is one of those featured on the Legends Wall inside MMP's Legends Hall banquet facility at the circuit's Club House. A tradition has been established in which the drivers or a loved one affixes their signature to the individual photos. During the weekend, Clark's former fiancee, Sally Stokes-Swart, signed his photo during a dinner for club members and drivers from Historic Sportscar Racing Ltd. (HSR)

"I'm very honored by the invitation to sign Jimmy's picture," she said. "I think he would be very pleased because it makes the connection over the ages. As motor racing friends, we're quite a small family but we seem to kind of meet each other over the decades and over the continents. It's very nice."

MMP CEO and General Manager Alan Wilson said, "As a young racing fan in South Africa, I always used to see Sally Stokes in the background of photos taken of Jimmy Clark throughout his career. I finally got to meet her last year, and it's great that she could be here this year and sign his photo on the Legends Wall."

Stokes-Swart is now married to Ed Swart, who is the president of HSR West, the California-based west-coast arm of HSR.

With a busy weekend of historic sports car racing in its rear-view mirror, the track is now preparing for a program of local racing action, as the Honda Presents the Plaza Cycle Masters of the Mountains motorcycle road racing series and the Utah Kart Championship Series will be racing this weekend, August 10-12, along with a Pro Solo II event hosted by the Utah Region of the Sports Car Club of America.
