31st Annual World Mini set for this weekend at LVMS; more than 2,700 riders expected to converge on Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS-- The 31st Annual World Mini Grand Prix returns to the motocross track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this week.

According to event director Ron Henricksen, a record 2,700 riders from 47 states and eight countries are expected to compete in the five-day event sponsored by Hansen's Energy drink. Competitors from as far away as South Africa and Australia are on the card. There are 34 different age and ability classifications represented from Pee Wee through 125cc, 250 Pro classes and the new 65 open class.

Seven factories including Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Cobra, Polini and KTM will be on hand along with 50 top aftermarket companies to display and award products. The factories will award over $100,000 in contingencies throughout all classes. The National Motorsport Association will post a $4,000 purse to the pros, while the factories contribute $20,000 in contingencies.

Many stars of the supercross circuit have competed at the World Mini including, local Carey Hart, Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Carmichael and current Indy Racing League star Jeff Ward.

Wednesday is a practice day with competition set for Thursday and running through Sunday. Racing begins each day at 7 a.m. Spectator admission is $50 for a week-long pass. Spectator admission Friday to Sunday is $12 a day. Children five and under are free.
